the sonified stair

immersive projection

An exhibition exploring immersive projection and sound as methods of spatial representation and experience.

What is the relationship between physical space and its representation in the form of a 3D model, a view or a sound?

Four models take literally the visual distortion afforded by adjusting the lens length of a virtual camera in a digital model, skewing a switchback stair at uncomfortable angles. Each model is sonified, its geometry driving the pitch and amplitude of a collection of tones. These sonifications accompany videos showing the perspective of one ascending, an experience visitors to the exhibition could immersively experience via a large projection screen.
